~ Lesson #4 ~

The World’s Only Hope

Download PDF of this page.

Never has the world faced so many perplexing problems that seem to have no solution. Your daily newspaper reveals a host of difficulties that man is incapable of solving.
The nations have tried in vain to resolve their differences through the United Nations. Not many of the major world problems have been solved or settled. The moral decay of mankind is apparent wherever one looks. The general confusion and perplexity in grappling with current social problems is very evident.
Many are asking, “Where can a permanent solution to these problems be found?” Your Bible holds the answer. Christ foretold the event that will resolve all of these problems of mankind. There is no other solution!
In the closing days of His ministry on this earth, nearly 2,000 years ago, Jesus talked about the day when He would be taken and crucified. The disciples of Christ would not allow themselves to believe that such a fate would ever overtake their beloved Leader. Christ knew that they would need an abiding hope in the days to come. He gave them the wonderful promise we find recorded in John 14:1-3, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”
The fulfillment of this promise in the coming of our Lord the second time to this earth is the world’s only hope. Let us see what the Word of God teaches concerning this wonderful event.

During the dark hours of World War II many Americans imprisoned by the enemy in the Philippine Islands maintained their sanity and will to live by remembering and believing a promise. That promise was made by General Douglas MacArthur when he was forced to leave them behind. He said as he left, “I shall return.”
Those weary, ill-treated prisoners repeated the promise and looked forward to the day when the American Army, under the leadership of General MacArthur, would return to liberate them. They never gave up hope, for they trusted in the ability of the United States to fulfill that hope.       What a wonderful day it was when General MacArthur’s soldiers and paratroopers delivered them from their prison camps. Their hopes were realized on that day.
Soon our Lord will return, for He has promised to “come again.” When He comes, He will forever banish sin, suffering, and sorrow. Gone will be the world’s many insoluble problems. The day of happiness and peace will have arrived!
You surely want to be ready to meet Him. Why not plan for that happy event? Would you like to express your desires by marking the squares below?

I want to be ready when Jesus comes.

 Please remember me in prayer.
