In a Few Words—
The seven thunders (last-day events) are
based on
Daniel’s fulfilled prophetic events of the past. In the order of Daniel’s literal
time prophecies, the
first thunder would be
:
The First Thunder —
The Transgression of desolation is set-up (A national Sunday law in the United States starts last-day events); the
daily taken away; the place of
His sanctuary is cast down; and the
decree is given to rebuild spiritual Jerusalem (the spiritual temple) and specifically to repair the breach made in the wall (of God’s Law). We will do our part; but it is quickly seen that Jesus is in control! The longest time period in Daniel, the 2300
literal days, starts with a national Sunday law (U.S.A.) and ends with the
final act of redemption,
the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary.
Dan 8:13, 14. (
Note Thunder #1 on bottom half of the
Mirror Chart.)
What is the Transgression of Desolation?
For that matter:
What is the Abomination of Desolation?
The
transgression of desolation (
and the
abomination of desolation) is a last-day
worship issue. Sunday worship is an attack by Satan against the seventh-day Sabbath rest which directs man’s worship to his Creator. This contrived dilemma is progressive, and takes the form of
forced worship laws —
Sunday Laws. Starting in the United States as a “transgression”, it becomes a major player in the final events from beginning to end, spreading to every country throughout the world as “the abomination” which leads to “desolation” (destruction).
Sunday worship is a doctrine of the Papacy and it is these Sunday worship laws that will set up the Papacy for its final rule and war against the saints.
The message given by God’s people is
salvation through Christ as seen in
the daily and final ministration in the Heavenly Sanctuary by Jesus, our High Priest. This message shows that life in Christ is keeping God’s commandments and allowing the seventh-day Sabbath to
work its sanctifying seal in the soul. This message is foretold by
the testimony and faith of Jesus in the Revelation, which is the spirit of prophecy, given by the Holy Spirit in great measure to the last generation. (
Rev 12:17;
14:12;
19:10)
Prophecy reveals that this last great war, with Satan as leader of rebellion and Jesus as leader of true freedom and worship, will continue even to the point that it appears God’s side is losing; but the fulfillment of the plan will continue until fully completed on earth and in Heaven, and sin is shown to be what it is,
—insanity— outside the covering of the Holy Spirit!
Prayer is the Answer to Understanding Daniel—
First, I would like to state that I believe this subject is very important, even vital in understanding what the book of Daniel (and Revelation) means to us as the last generation. It is paramount that we understand what the abomination is and its proper placement in the last-day events —events that take place both here on earth and in the Heavenly Sanctuary! So far as I know, very few are teaching that Daniel is to be repeated as the last day events, specifically as a whole, with its interpretation coming from the already fulfilled events of prophetic history. We all come carrying our baggage of preconceived ideas, and many times, more often than not, these prejudices keep us from understanding God’s Truth. Because this subject may be new to you, I would urge and beg of you to pray for the Guidance of the Holy Spirit in this study. I understand that preconceived ideas, if Scripturally based, can be a wall of protection for us against error. But, please don’t let preconceived ideas, if they are not based in Scripture, stop you from studying this subject thoroughly.
—May God Bless!
Jesus, the Disciples, and the Last Generation—
The disciples asked Jesus three questions (Matt 24:3), which he specifically answered as the
abomination of desolation (
Matt 24:15). Jesus placed this
abomination in
the future of His giving these warnings, and since the disciples asked these questions, it is to the disciples that He gave the answer. We know the disciples understood that Jesus was applying this
abomination to
their own time because Luke tells us, “when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.”
Luke 21:20 They knew that the abomination was the Roman army; that the desolation was the destruction of the Temple; that it was fulfilled in 70
AD (
Matt 23:38;
24:1, 2); and that this was a prophecy of Daniel which was being fulfilled at this time because the nation had rejected Christ as the Lamb of God. (
John 1:29,
10)
But, this prophecy is far more important than we realize. Jesus was also teaching that this prophecy has
a more complete fulfillment of the abomination to the last generation. Both
before (
Matt 23:36) and
after (
Matt 24:33, 34) giving this sermon on the Mount of Olives, Jesus tells that there would be a generation which
would not pass till all the signs would be fulfilled.
All the signs were
not fulfilled to the disciples’ generation. The
last sign, which is Jesus coming in the clouds of glory, did
not happened to the disciples’ generation. There is only
one generation for whom
all the signs can be fulfilled in their lives, and that is the generation which sees the
last sign, Jesus’ Second Coming.
That generation can ONLY be the last generation! Therefore the
abomination of desolation has a special meaning and fulfillment to
this last generation! (
FS egw) What was a
type for the disciples’ generation will be the
antitype fulfillment for the last generation!
It’s interesting that Jesus was quoting “
the abomination of desolation” from the book of Daniel, chapters
11:31 and
12:11, with threads leading to
8:13, the
transgression of desolation. Jesus was teaching the disciples that if they wanted the answer, or wanted more on the subject, they should study the book of Daniel. (And so should we study these prophecies to discover the meaning for our time!)
But none of the three texts above could be used
by the disciples to explain the destruction of Jerusalem’s Temple in 70
AD.
Only Daniel 9:26, 27 can be used to explain the destruction of Jerusalem’s Temple in 70
AD. (And of course, the prophecy of the destruction of Jerusalem’s Temple would have to be at the end of the 70
weeks-of-years, the 490
years allotted to the Jewish nation to get their house in order. The prophecy of
Dan 9:24-27 shows this exact fulfillment.) So why then did Jesus quote from Daniel 11 and 12 where the “abomination of desolation” is associated with the other prophetic times of Daniel (1260, 1290, and 1335.),
but not 70 AD? In fact, these prophecies linked with the “abomination of desolation” were to be fulfilled hundreds of years in the future of the disciples’ time. There is no doubt in my mind that we have yet to fully understand the meaning of the events of Daniel, both in
prophetic history and
to be repeated in the near future.
The
transgression of desolation and the
abomination of desolation are recurring subjects throughout the book of Daniel, in the stories and in the prophecies, from beginning to end. Both the
transgression and
abomination lead to
desolation, —
the same universal desolation! It is clear to see that the
Strong’s Hebrew meaning of
transgression is not as harsh as the
Strong’s Hebrew meaning of the
abomination, and because of association with the
daily, the
sanctuary, and the persecution of God’s
saints (the host), the
transgression (by time and meaning)
progressively grows into the
abomination, and this finds its end in
desolation/destruction after Michael stands up.
Dan 12:1. Then, and only then, will we see the complete fulfillment of
Daniel 12:7, “when he [the Papacy] shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people,
all these things shall be finished.” (Interesting, the exact words Jesus used!
Matt 23:36; 24:33, 34.)
What is the Transgression of Desolation?—
The last great test will be over the Law of God which is an issue of worship. The day upon which we choose to worship, either Sunday or the seventh-day Sabbath, shows whose law we keep. (Ex 20:8-11) The question that all must ask is; Who is the Creator? The Creator of man is Jesus (
John 1:1-3), and at creation, a memorial was set up to honor the true Creator. One day out of seven is to be regarded by man as blessed and sanctified by the Creator, and no work is to be done on the seventh day of the week, the Lord’s Sabbath. (
Gen 2:1-3;
Lev 23:3;
Mark 2:27, 28.) Man is to enter into a Sabbath rest, personally, with his Creator, seeking to know Jesus better. The Creator gave to man this day of worship so that they would not forget Who is their Creator and Redeemer (Re-Creator).
(Further Study: The Law of God (15 Bible Studies); The Bible Sabbath (14 Bible Studies).)
Could it be that the book of Daniel foretells the
progression of Sunday laws? Could it be that it tells of this last controversy in great detail?
The answer is, most assuredly, YES!!! The whole of the book of Daniel (and Revelation for that matter),
tells in great detail the progression of forced Sunday worship upon all the peoples of the earth, and then Jesus comes to save His elect! On the other-hand, these same prophecies and stories tell of the victory of the saints; not only victory over the beast and his image, but gaining victory over sin through Jesus, receiving
the seal of the living God, and
the cleansing of the soul and Heavenly temple!
“Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” Dan 8:13, 14.
The Hebrew word translated as
transgression, pronounced
peh'-shah, is found in
Daniel 8:13 where we find the
Strong’s Hebrew number
H6588, which means;
“a revolt (national, moral or religious).” Isn’t this interesting? A Hebrew word, written more than 2500 years ago, has the exact translated English meaning and in every respect describes
the first event of the seven thunders, —the
United States national Sunday law (
Rev 13:14, 15). A national Sunday law will be
a revolt against God’s law; it will be
a national law of the United States; it will be
a moral issue and it will be a test for every living person in America. And although this country was founded on the principle of
separation of church and state, this law being
religious in nature will be passed by the highest councils in the U.S. and the president.
Church and state will from that point on have been
joined together until the end of
days and
nothing can or will undo this law; it will only become progressively more severe. The fifth seal describes how severe: “And they
cried with a loud voice, saying,
How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood. . . .”
Rev 6:9-11.
A revolt (national, moral or religious) —
H6588—
In the next few sections we will investigate the English translated meaning given in
Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance—
A revolt—
a national revolt
a moral revolt
a religious revolt
A Revolt—
*** Sunday image worship is
a revolt against the God of Heaven as the Creator and against His seventh-day Sabbath worship! Scripture calls it a revolt, —an uprising, a rebellion, especially against God’s authority. Many will oppose and refuse to accept God’s law which says to “
remember”
the seventh-day Sabbath, and it is this rebellion which
starts the final time of trouble. This revolt is a thread that can be traced throughout the entire period of the 2300
days (the longest time period of Daniel;
Dan 8:13-14) and its associated times; the seventy weeks allotted to
the church (490
days;
Dan 9:24-27); and
the wilderness times of the 1260, 1290, and 1335
days. (
Dan 7:25;
11:31;
12:7,
11, 12.) (See also
Eze 20:13;
Rev 12:6,
14;
17:3.) The prophecy states that (almost all) the whole world will worship or go along with this Sunday image (
Rev 13:15-17) and will persecute the few who dare to be a Daniel and keep the law of God and its
sealing, sanctifying sign, —the seventh-day Sabbath.
Eze 20:12 (This alone shows that the few have the truth; not the many! It has always been this way.)
A National Revolt—
*** Sunday image worship will become a
national revolt against God’s law. It may be that individual states in the U.S. will enact laws or enforce laws now on the books (Blue Laws)
before a national act. Whatever the case with the individual states, what we understand from the prophetic writings is that it’s
not just a state act,
but a National act of law. It is the
peh'-shah, the first and beginning of
transgressions which leads
not only the United States down a one-way road to destruction, but leads by
progression from a transgression to an abomination, a world-wide law enforcing Sunday image worship. It does not matter how many other countries pass national Sunday laws (before the U.S.), although these laws may be harsh (even to death), it is only the law that is
nationally passed by the beast with “two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon” of
Revelation 13:11 that
prophecy acknowledges as the transgression leading to the abomination of desolation. It is an
affront* and a
revolt against God because the United States claims to worship the Christian God; they call themselves a
Christian “nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
(Pledge of Allegiance; 1954.) (* Affront: To insult intentionally, especially openly. To transgress; Violate or offend law; To cause to sin.)
National revolt, these are mighty strong words! Does not the greatest nation on earth, the United States, claim to be “one nation under God” —a Christian nation? Yet, men have become bold in transgression and transgression is sin.
It might be well for us to understand that the
transgression of desolation is a phrase whose meaning we should look at
from God’s point of view. The seventh day of the fourth commandment is
God’s memorial, testifying of His
creative power in making the world in six days and resting on the seventh day. But most Christians teach and accept that God’s law was abolished at the cross, thus it is perceived that it is not necessary to keep God’s memorial, the seventh-day Sabbath. Man may choose to say or believe anything about the law of God which is contrary to keeping God’s law. But the fact still remains;
transgression of the law of God is sin.
From a human standpoint, living in the U.S., on the surface the Sunday Law won’t appear to be anything other than a law for the health and welfare of the people and nation. A number of disasters will happen within a short period (not only in the U.S.), which will make people conclude that there will be
no recovery, —
unless there is an
immediate return to God. (
Return to God implies that these disasters are the result of judgments from an angry God.) Its proponents will claim that a Nation-wide Sunday Law will help the economy revive and give stability to the nation. A great call for revival and reformation will come from the Christian churches, and of course, what better way is there than to worship God on a universal day of rest, —Sunday. But, this law will be nothing short of a revolt against God’s law!

P.S.— Although we can with certainty trace the prophecies of
Daniel 8 through the centuries starting with the ram and the goat interpreted as
Medo-Persia and Greece (
vrs 20-21); we must take note that the prophecy angel comes to Daniel and leaves no guessing as to its final and complete fulfillment. “He said,
Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the
time appointed the end shall be.”
Dan 8:19 Please note that we are still in the chapter of the
transgression of desolation (
vrs 13), and only a few verses further we are told that the
desolation is “
the last end of the indignation” and that its end is “
at the time appointed.” (
vrs 19) Of course it is at
an appointed time, for the
desolation or the last end of the indignation will be at the
end of the 2300 days (
vrs 14). In fact, it’s the
time appointed —it’s the
mo'ed, which explains in great detail the last acts in the plan of redemption! (See
H4150) (
Dan 12:9, 10)
(FS; see GC 426.1 and EW 54-56. —These pages cannot be placed within the framework of the fulfillment of the historical type.)
A Moral Revolt—
*** Sunday image worship will become a
moral revolt against God. The very phrase
transgression of desolation tells a story of sin. Throughout the Bible transgression is the breaking of the
moral law of God. Transgression is sin, and the result of sin is destruction. Therefore the definition of this image worship day, Sunday, is sin and its result will be desolation. Sunday is not God’s created day of worship; nor is it recorded in the Bible that He changed the day of worship for any other day! For God to change His day of worship, He would have to change His Law, and God does not change. “For I am the Lord,
I change not.” (
Mal. 3:6) “The works of His hands are verity and judgment;
all His commandments are sure.
They stand fast forever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.” (
Ps 111:7, 8)
There will soon be a great change in people’s lives, but the return will
not be to God’s law, —but to
man’s law. It will be taught that there was and is a change from the
seventh-day Sabbath worship to Sunday worship. (There is no Scriptural proof of a change to Sunday, but that is what will be taught, and even now it’s what is believed by most Christians.)
For all practical purposes, the seventh-day Sabbath will
appear to be forgotten. That’s why God placed the word
“remember” as the first word of the fourth commandment. God in His foreknowledge, saw that the Sabbath of creation would be
forgotten in the last days and trodden under foot, —cast down, stamped upon, taken away, (
Dan 7:25;
8:10-13) —“and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people,
all these things shall be finished.”
Dan 12:7.
Remember the
Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: But the
seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days
the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and
rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord
blessed the
Sabbath day, and
hallowed it. (
Ex 20:8-11.)
A Religious Revolt—
*** Sunday image worship will become a
religious revolt against God.
Moral issues are not usually considered
religious in nature by the United States Governing powers. This will certainly be the case when Sunday is presented to the U.S. government as the only way to revive the nation. The enactment of the first phase of a national Sunday law will most likely
not be considered religious and will be passed for the health and welfare of the nation. In reality, it does not matter what steps are taken to make it look on the surface that it is
NOT religious; —
it will be a religious issue. The religious aspect of the Sunday rest day will become clearer as time progresses. At first the Sunday law will be a voluntary rest day,
a cease to work day (possibly with no or limited penalties). The
religious nature will show itself, when after a time, the Sunday law will become a worship issue and the penalties will get more severe.
The national Sunday law is the
beginning of the
last great test and
starts the last great
Day of Judgment when God’s Law is brought forth from its hiding place to be the standard of judgment. (
Rev 11:1,
19.) With the test now made law, the
judgment of the living begins, and that judgment in a very specific fulfillment, will be left up to the individual
by their own choice. This is exactly why the test is necessary!
Who will we worship? (
Dan 3:1,
17-18.) At first, this
last great test for the last generation will be perceived by many as benign, even considered as not worthy of notice. The groups, the movements, the churches, and almost all politicians
will not perceive what they are about to pass into law as harmful to the citizens of the U.S. They will espouse with
great enthusiasm that enforced State Blue Laws, and
then National Sunday Law
s, will need to be passed and enforced with great speed for the
saving of the Nation.
But the book of Daniel (and Revelation) proclaims that when this law is passed
in the United States, it will usher in events which will not only
lead the U.S.,
but the whole world down a one-way road to destruction. (
Matt 24:15-22;
Rev 13 all.) Jesus says, “Behold, I have told you before.” (
Vrs. 25.)
Very few will understand that Sunday laws are religious in nature,
and are from and for the worship of the god of this world!
Sunday worship and Sunday laws are not from the God of Heaven
who gave the Ten Commandments to man on Mount Sinai
and recorded them in Exodus 20!
Furthermore, it is not recorded in the Bible that God made a change!
Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried;
but the wicked shall do wickedly:
and none of the wicked shall understand;
but the wise shall understand.
Dan 12:10.
And such as do wickedly against the covenant
shall he corrupt by flatteries:
but the people that do know their God
shall be strong, and do exploits.
And they that understand among the people
shall instruct many.
Dan 11:32, 33.
In the state where I live, there are a number of Sunday Blue Laws on the books; some enforced, some not. Idaho Law number 17-2502 says,
“The first day of the week, commonly called Sunday,
is hereby set apart as a day of public rest.”
Idaho Code, 1932;
American State Papers on Freedom in Religion, 3rd Ed.,
page 459, compiled by William Addison Blakely |
U.S. Supreme Court
1961
The Supreme Court declares that Sunday laws
are economical and not religious,
and are therefore legally constitutional.
|
Sunday laws are an
establishment of religion for those who worship on Sunday, and they are against those
who may or may not keep another day holy.
Sunday laws are a
restriction of the
free exercise of freedom of religion and a denial of
equal protection, and they are
an infringement of personal religious or non-religious belief.
The National Sunday Law will be a dramatic event for many reasons to many people (both Christian and non-Christian), but it will
not be the only event that starts the 2300
days. All the other times and their events have their fulfillment in
the last great day of redemption,
—within the framework of the 2300 evenings/mornings.
Dan 8:14,
26;
Gen 1:5.
What is the Desolation?—
The world will be so deceived by the events of the anti-Christ that they won’t even see the end coming. The definition of the Strong’s Hebrew word [H8074] carries with it the meaning:
To stun; grow numb; devastate; stupefy. Jesus, still teaching the disciples, taught that “as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”
Matt 24:37-39. (
FS egw)
And the great city was divided into three parts,
and the cities of the nations fell:
and great Babylon came in remembrance before God,
to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.
Revelation 16:19, 20
And [the merchants of the world] cast dust on their heads,
and cried, weeping and wailing, saying,
Alas, alas, that great city,
wherein were made rich all that had ships
in the sea by reason of her costliness!
for in one hour is she made desolate!
Revelation 18:19
Conclusion—
Knowledge is not wisdom, and in and of itself, —knowledge does not save! Some seek to know these prophecies that they might save themselves, and fail to understand the wisdom of the saving power of Christ who gave the prophecies. Knowing these prophecies alone, without having a personal relationship with their Author, will not save one’s soul. Belief in Jesus as the slain Lamb of God, —saves! Rev 5:6,
9.
Yet, on the other hand, prophecy is given to reveal Jesus and His saving plan of redemption.
Rev 1:3.
Wisdom is the proper use of knowledge when guided by the Holy Spirit! Prov 9:10;
James 3:17.
Yes! The book of Daniel foretells in detail the formation of image worship in the United States of America (
the transgression;
Dan 8:13;
Rev 13:14), and how it progressively develops into a world-wide universal Sunday law (
the abomination;
Dan 11:31;
12:11). Daniel shows that it is a destructive sequence of events, which is directed against God’s people (the host) and the Truth they teach from the Plan of redemption in the Heavenly Sanctuary.
THIS IS THE LAST GREAT TEST! This test is designed to make the last generation, saint or sinner,
choose Who he will worship! Seven warning trumpet judgments will get everyone’s attention!
Rev 8:7–11:17.
All must make the decision, Who will they worship?
The choice is simple. Will we pay homage to the god who set up the
Sun–day as his worship day (the image and mark of the beast;
Rev 13)?
OR Will we worship the Creator who made the seventh-day Sabbath for us (
Rev 4:11;
10:6;
14:7;
7:14)? God foresaw that after sin, we would need to receive His Sabbath’s
sanctifying blessing (
Gen 2:1-3;
Ex 20:8-11;
Lev 23), and thus receive the
seal of His salvation. (
Eze 20:12,
20;
Rev 7:1-3;
9:4, 5.)
“And the dragon was wroth with the woman,
and went to make war with the remnant of her seed,
which keep the commandments of God,
and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”
Revelation 12:17
“Here is the patience of the saints:
here are they that keep the commandments of God,
and the faith of Jesus.”
Revelation 14:12
“And I fell at his feet to worship him.
And he said unto me, See thou do it not:
I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren
that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God:
for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
Revelation 19:10
