The Bible Says Study Guides

~ Lesson #6 ~

God Lives And Loves

Download PDF of this page.

There was a time when nearly all those living in Christian countries believed in God. An atheist was the exception. Times are changing. Men’s concepts of God are changing. Many today think it a mark of scholarship to deny the existence of God. A great political system attempts to remove the very knowledge of God from men’s minds to advance its own concepts. Even some who profess Christianity claim that “God is dead.”
Can we know that there is a supreme, intelligent Being whom we call God? It is in the Bible that God has most fully revealed Himself. Let us look at three Bible texts as we begin our study.
      1. “For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. Ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature, namely, His eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made.” Romans 1:19. Revised Standard Version. This text states that the natural world plainly testifies to the existence and creative power of God.
      2. “Upholding all things by the word of His power.” Hebrews 1:3. This second text affirms that God, through Jesus Christ His Son, upholds or maintains all created things. For example, it is God who keeps all the heavenly bodies moving in their appointed orbits.
      3. “For in Him we live, and move, and have our being.” Acts 17:28. The third great Bible truth on this subject informs us that all life is sustained by God. There must be a source for life, and God is that ultimate source.

The great God of the universe is our loving heavenly Father. “‘God is love’ is written upon every opening bud, upon every spire of springing grass. The lovely birds making the air vocal with their happy songs, the delicately tinted flowers in their perfection perfuming the air, testify to the care of our God, and to His desire to make His children happy.” —Steps to Christ, page 10.
When Philip said to Jesus, “Show us the Father,” Jesus answered, “He that hath seen Me hath seen the Father.” Jesus came not only to die for us, but to reveal God to us. He went about doing good, healing the sick, comforting the sorrowing, feeding the hungry, and forgiving penitents their sins. This was His character, and He and the Father are One, for Jesus was God “manifest in the flesh.”
The cross of Christ is the fullest revelation of God’s love, for “God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself.”
Like the father in the parable of the prodigal son, our heavenly Father opens wide His loving arms to each of us, His wayward children, and invites us to come to Him. The most wonderful thing you can do is to accept His invitation and come to know Him for yourself, for Jesus said, “This is life eternal, that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent.” John 17:3.
If this study has created a desire in your heart to know God and serve Him better, we suggest you check the two statements below.

I desire to become better acquainted with my heavenly Father.

I want to respond to His love by being His obedient son or daughter.
