Further Study 1
    The Church has long possessed the knowledge that Prophetic History would be repeated.  —Ellen White
      “We feel deeply over the present state of the church whose members have long possessed a knowledge of those events which are to transpire near the close of time in fulfillment of prophetic history. Christ is coming in power and great glory, and the dead are to be “judged out of those things which are written in the books, according to their works.” [Rev 20:12] The One who has stood as our intercessor; who hears all penitential prayers and confessions; who is represented with a rainbow, the symbol of grace and love, encircling his head, is soon to cease his work in the heavenly sanctuary. Grace and mercy will then descend from the throne, and justice will take their place. He for whom his people have looked will assume his right, —the office of Supreme Judge. “The Father . . . hath committed all judgment unto the Son. . . . And he hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.” [John 5:22, 27] It was he, says Peter, who was ordained to “judge the quick [the living] and the dead.” [2Tim 4:1] “He hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained.” [Acts 17:31]  {RH, January 1, 1889 par. 1}
      From the preceding paragraph, there is one question we should ask. —What last-day event knowledge has God provided to us which we have had for a long time (and yet we still do not understand its place and soon fulfillment)? This statement will fulfilled when we understand that prophetic history is to be the type of the last-day events, the antitype! This becomes real to the last generation when we realize that our Heavenly Father doesn’t want us to go through the last-day events, as it were to say, in “a dry run”. Our loving Father has provided that we understand that prophetic history is ordained by Heaven to be an example of what will be repeated in a very short time, —replayed as last-day events.
      Ellen White had good reason to “feel deeply” (very sad) about God’s people not understanding repeated prophetic history fulfilled as last-day events! At the time of this writing in the Review and Herald (1889), it had been at least 42 years; and at least 164 years to our generation, and we still don’t get it!!! How long have we possessed this knowledge and yet not understood God’s leading. Maybe a more important question is; How long (Dan 8:13; 12:6; Rev 6:10) will it take for us “measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein?” (Rev 11:1) (Also the measuring of the court—the Times of the Gentiles—and the Two Witnesses; Rev 11:2-3)
 
The following is taken from the little book, A Word to the Little Flock (1847), the most published book of Ellen White.
 
      “The Lord has shown me in vision, that Jesus rose up, and shut the door, and entered the Holy of Holies, at the 7th month 1844; but Michael’s standing up (Daniel 12:1) to deliver his people, is in the future.  {WLF 12.4}
      “This, will not take place, until Jesus has finished his priestly office in the Heavenly Sanctuary, and lays off his priestly attire, and puts on his most kingly robes, and crown, to ride forth on the cloudy chariot , to “thresh the heathen in anger” [Hab 3:12] and deliver his people.  {WLF 12.5}  [Matt 24:30]
      “Then Jesus will have the sharp sickle in his hand, (Revelation 14:14) and then the saints will cry day and night to Jesus on the cloud, to thrust in his sharp sickle and reap.  {WLF 12.6}
      “This, will be the time of Jacob’s trouble, (Jer 30:5-8) out of which, the saints will be delivered by the voice of God.  {WLF 12.7}
      “I believe the Sanctuary, to be cleansed at the end of the 2300 days, is the New Jerusalem Temple, of which Christ is a minister. The Lord shew me in vision, more than one year ago, that Brother Crosier had the true light, on the cleansing of the Sanctuary, &c; and that it was his will, that Brother C. should write out the view which he gave us in the Day-Star, Extra, February 7, 1846. I feel fully authorized by the Lord, to recommend that Extra, to every saint.  {WLF 12.8}  [Dan 7:9, 10, 13; 8:14; Heb 8:1, 2]
      “I pray that these lines may prove a blessing to you, and all the dear children who may read them.”

Topsham, April 21, 1847    
 
      Ellen White wrote this two and a half years after October of 1844! (But she received this information in a vision more than a year before.) She had gone through the experience of 1844 and knew well what the event represented and what it did not represent. That’s why in a previous paragraph, she says, “The Lord has shown me in vision, that Jesus rose up, and shut the door, and entered the Holy of Holies, at the 7th month 1844. . .” {WLF 12.4} Even thought she places the end of the 2300 years as ending in 1844, YET, she says that the cleansing of the Heavenly Sanctuary, which is yet future, will be at the end of the 2300 days!
      Placing the cleansing of the Heavenly Sanctuary among last-day events Ellen White says; “I believe the Sanctuary, to be cleansed at the end of the 2300 days, is the New Jerusalem Temple, of which Christ is a minister.” Jesus finishes “his priestly office in the Heavenly Sanctuary” when He stands up, “lays off his priestly attire, and puts on his most kingly robes, and crown, to ride forth on the cloudy chariot.” “This, will be the time of Jacob’s trouble,” when “the saints will cry day and night to Jesus on the cloud,” to “deliver his people” and “the saints will be delivered by the voice of God” at the ending of the days!
